Welcome to the bytheRIVERside . . . official website of Sid River

On this website you will find a collection of comedy scripts, sketches and mini-plays which you are free to use in the classroom, theatre, assembly hall or just for your own amusement. They have all been successfully tested on live children, mostly to great effect (notably in class assemblies and end of year reviews).

All we ask is that you credit the author with the work and possibly send an email to bytheRIVERside to let us know what you thought of it and how successful the performance was.

           Hi Dopey Dave

MARCH NEWS - Apparently, before the year 1752, March was the first month of the year. So in honour of this, I have made and am eating another Christmas cake. Also, on this month in history (this is beginning to sound like a bad radio show) Julius Caesar was murdered and the football league was invented by Aston Villa, although the two events are unlikely to be connected. Alexander Graham Bell (known affectionately as 'Ding-dong to his closest friends - see "Eureka! Eureka! - Inventions and discoveries through the ages!") invented the telephone. If he had invented a second telephone at the same time, his invention would have taken off a lot sooner! Can you tell I don't have much to write about!!! The featured play is a Sherlock Holmes mystery which should have them rolling about in the aisles, especially if you play the Crossroads theme at the end. I am adding a play soon about evacuated children in WWII. Be seeing you.
Cheers
Sid

"Sherlock Holmes and the mystery of the Aquilla Diamond"

Written in the style of a “Round the Horn” or “Goon Show” radio script, this has worked really well in a number of end of year reviews. It contains a few old jokes but it still makes me laugh ten years on! If the actors have good timing and can “over-act” it helps.

How do I get the scripts?

EASY - Just click on the 'Downloads' link on the navigation bar for an outline of each scrpt and a link to download it in PDF format. Or you could just click HERE if you like! If we could make a cup of tea for you at this point, we would! Here's a picture of a sleeping gnome instead.
